We have been growing ginger for the past 8 years now. It is a good project that has
helped us reach people in the community where we have the gardens. Since it is a labor
intensive work, we employ 50-60 people during planting and harvesting seasons. With
the proceeds from this; we are able to pay the tithe, a percentage is taken back into
ministry for missions, and provide an income to people involved in the work. We are still
believing God that we shall continue this work. These are grown in Mpigi (six and a half
acres and Butambala (3 acres) district
Coffee growing in Mityana. This is a new project that we have so far been doing for two
years, so our trees are just coming up for harvest this year. Because coffee isn’t a
seasonal crop that we need to plant every season, we ventured into growing it. We
needed a long term investment that could give us an income as and when the coffee
beans are ready for harvest, instead of seasonal
Eucalyptus tree growing – this is also in Mityana and Butambala. This has helped us
during construction of the school buildings in Mityana, Mpigi and Zana. Through the process of planting, and maintaining the eucalyptus gardens, we have
obtained disciples from the workers we employ. We also sell the trees to get an income
that helps us to meet our needs and in ministry.
In addition to this, we grow bananas, sweet potatoes, sweet corn, beans, and other
food crops to feed our families and help other disciples in need of food. We also use the
gardens to work together as disciples, for discipleship and to teach our children how to
work.
Buying and selling corn and beans
We are involved in the buying corn and beans from farmers and selling it in large
quantities to traders.
In doing this work of trading, we have obtained a disciple who came to us for work when
he was not born again. He is now doing the work of ministry at Mpigi discipleship center, especially in the business wing. So, in this project, we are both receiving an income and
making disciples. We were able to buy a maize shelling machine in 2020 and it is very
instrumental in the business we are involved in. This machine also fetches us some
small income when farmers hire it’s services. This income helps us meet small needs of
the brethren and the people involved in the gardening ministry.
